Intra Vascular Ultrasound in Coronary Syndromes: an Overview

چکیده

fHE CONVENTIONAL coronary angiogram provides :letails of the lumen of the coronary arteries. The mgiogram, however, does not provide information of the structure of the intima, media, and adventitia. With intracoronary ultrasound probes, it is possible to directly obtain information not only of the coronary lumen but also of the type of intraluminal structures and to differentiate cholesterol from thrombotic material and from calcifications. Intravascular ultrasound also provides us with many information about the results of intracoronary maneuvers. Small and large dissections, broken atheroma, flaps, and insufficient dilatation results can easily be detected. The correct placement of intracoronary stent systems can easily be controlled. This new development contributes to the improvement of coronary diagnosis and invasive intracoronary treatment.

An overview of therapeutic applications of ultrasound based on synergetic effects with gold nanoparticles and laser excitation

Acoustic cavitation which occurs at high intensities of ultrasound waves can be fatal for tumor cells. The existence of dissolved gases and also the presence of nanoparticles (NPs) in a liquid, irradiated by ultrasound, decrease the acoustic cavitation onset threshold and the resulting bubbles collapse. On the other hand, due to unique capabilities and optical properties of gold nanoparticles (...

Research and Clinical Applications of Optical Coherence Tomography in Invasive Cardiology: A Review

In cardiology, optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an invasive imaging technique based on the principle of light coherence. This system was developed to obtain three-dimensional high resolution images to examine coronary artery normal and/or pathological structure. This technique replaces the ultrasound used by its main alternative procedure, intravascular ultrasound, by a near-infrared light...

Adjunctive intra-coronary imaging for the assessment of coronary artery disease

Atherosclerotic coronary artery disease remains a leading cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality. Invasive angiography currently remains the gold standard method of diagnosing and treating coronary disease; however, more sophisticated adjunctive interventional technologies have been developed to combat the inter and intra-observer variability frequently encountered in the assessment of lesi...

Platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa antagonists: pharmacology and clinical developments.

PLATELETS are critical for normal hemostasis and thrombus formation. Thrombus formation initiated by platelets plays a central role in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndromes (unstable angina and myocardial infarction). Platelets are involved in events causing angioplasty failure and stent thrombosis and may also play an important role in restenosis through the release of potent prothrombo...

Neutrophil count and complex lesions in patients with coronary artery disease.

Patients With Coronary Artery Disease To the Editor: In a recent article, Coller1 reviews the role of leukocytosis in vascular disease morbidity and mortality. Despite the exhaustive nature of the review, we were concerned that the author failed to address an issue of major importance, namely the relationship between neutrophil count and the presence of vulnerable atheromatous plaques in patien...
